In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
